Last Tuesday, Chris and I drove over to High Island to visit the Smith Oaks Sanctuary Rookery. It was a really neat experience. I have never seen so many large birds in one place. We saw Roseate Spoonbills, Great Egrets, Cormorants, Snowy Egrets and Moorhens. There is a very nice trail and many observation decks and platforms available for use. I recommend visiting for anyone that has an appreciation for nature and birds. It is a little hard to find, as it is off the beaten path, so if you have plans to go, make sure you use a good set of directions. I believe there are more birding opportunities in the area so Chris and I plan to go
back.
